How It Works

Tires are one of the most underappreciated factors in EV range. Low rolling resistance (LRR) tires designed for EVs can improve range by 5-8% compared to standard all-season tires. Performance tires can reduce range by 5-8%, and off-road tires by 10-15%. Tire pressure matters too: every PSI below recommended reduces efficiency by about 0.5-1%. EVs are heavier than equivalent gas cars (due to batteries), so tires wear faster — typically 20-30% sooner. EV-specific tires are designed to handle the extra weight and instant torque while minimizing rolling resistance. Check your tire pressure monthly (or use your car's built-in TPMS) and keep tires at the manufacturer's recommended PSI for optimal range.
