How It Works

Charging at home is almost always cheaper than using public chargers. The average US residential electricity rate is about $0.14 per kWh, while public DC fast chargers typically charge $0.30-0.50 per kWh. For a typical 75 kWh battery charged from 20% to 80%, home charging costs about $6.30 compared to $15.75 at a public station. Most EV owners do 80-90% of their charging at home overnight. To minimize costs, charge during off-peak hours if your utility offers time-of-use rates. Many utilities offer special EV charging rates as low as $0.06-0.08 per kWh for overnight charging.
